The 40-acre vineyard located in Vineland on the Niagara peninsula is a parcel of agricultural land highly prized for growing great quality grapes.
The vineyard is located on a long narrow ridge of material deposited by the glacier that occupied the Lake Ontario basin approximately 13,000 years ago. Planted in 2001 with eight noble grape varieties, the first harvest was three years later. The wines produced require a diligent process from vineyard to bottle. Craig Wismer, the Consultant Viticulturist of Glen Elgin Vineyard Management, manages the vineyards with an eye to bring in a harvest with the best possible quality.
The work on the vineyard is the first step in producing appassimento wines to produce the big, bold red and elegant white wines that the winery has become known for in Canada and beyond.
