Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

2013 ~ 750ml
13.9% alc./vol.

Tasting Notes
With a dense dark purple colour, the concentration of this wine on the nose is phenomenal with ripe black currant, eucalyptus, cigar tobacco, ripe black cherry, and spicy leather notes. The palate is firm yet elegant with smooth tannins and flavours of ripe black cherry, blackberry, black currant and subtle oak on the long finish.

Winemaking Notes

The 2013 vintage was more moderate than 2012 but consistently warm, which allowed for a slow, even ripening season. The result was a crop that had excellent complexity of flavours and more elegant tannin structure together with ripe fruit. The grapes were hand-harvested in late November with 15% of the grapes set aside to dry using the traditional appassimento method before pressing. The resulting wine was then aged in French and American oak for 26 months.

Wine and Food Pairing
Suggested food pairings include chateaubriand, T-bone Steaks, grilled beef or game meats, veal chops, dark chocolate, and firm cheeses. Enjoy now from a decanter, perhaps by the fireplace, or let mature for 5-10 years.

Product Description

Past Reviews:

Foreign Affair Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 ($35, winery, 92 points)— 40% of the fruit was dried and the wine was aged for 18-20 months in a combination of French, American and Hungarian oak. It has a deep, dark burgundy colour in the glass and reveals rich black currants, graphite, dark plums, mocha, nutmeg and cassis fruit. This is a big, bold, rich and nicely aged Cab at this point with flavourful dark fruits, a mouthful of spice and persistence through the finish. It’s a heady wine, thrilling in fact, if you like your wines with power and personality. Cellar or drink now with boldly spiced grilled meats.
