Our partial Appassimento Syrah and Whisky Barrelled Cabernet Sauvignon are both relatively new to The Foreign Affair Winery portfolio. They both represent our innovative spirit - the team at the winery is always striving to push the envelope, evolve and improve, and ultimately to wow Ontario wine drinkers from one year to the next.
The Syrah has seen three vintages in our portfolio - 2015, 2016 and now 2017. This most recent vintage is the first to receive an incredibly high score of 92 points from local wine critic Tony Aspler, 'The Wine Guy'. Starting out as a Wine Club exclusive red wine, we have now extended access to this bold red to all fans of Foreign Affair wine. Using an old-world technique like Appassimento in this new-world setting of Ontario, there is no road map or instruction manual available to winemakers. Therefore those that pursue such a method are building their own roads, and making their own rules. For our winemaking team, working with the Syrah varietal was a new experience, one they were unafraid to embark upon. Syrah can be found in a wide array of styles around the world, and we believe that ours is a one-of-a-kind!
Of course, our Wine Club Members now have exclusive access to the unique and delightful Syrah Cabernet Sauvignon 2018. If you are a Member and would like to place an order for this wine, contact us. If you are interested in learning more about our Wine Club - click here.
Another one-of-a-kind, and characteristically innovative wine in our portfolio, is the Whisky Barrelled Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine was the result of a unique partnership with Master Distiller, Dr. Don Livermore. The idea formed, the barrels were swapped, and both Winemaker and Distiller set out to age their product in untraditional housings. The results being a Pike Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Barrel Aged Whisky, and an even bolder partial Appassimento Cabernet Sauvignon aged in Canadian Whisky Barrels. Again, this wine was released first to our Wine Club Members, but now the limited remaining inventory is available to all Foreign Affair wine fans!
