Last year, Master Whisky Blender Dr Don Livermore of Hiram Walker and Foreign Affair Winemaker Barclay Robinson were discussing their respective loves for the grape and the grain. What resulted was the idea for an innovative partnership, Barclay sent Don barrels which once contained our bold Appassimento Cabernet Sauvignon, and Don reciprocated with barrels which were home to premium Canadian whisky.

This 22% Appassimento Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 12 months in French and American oak, then an additional 5 months in Pike Creek Whisky barrels – giving a richness and complexity to this already bold red wine

Only 7 barrels made.

Barclay is proud (rightly so!) of how this innovative wine, a first of its kind for him and the winery, turned out, he said “We aren’t the first to do it, but the Appassimento technique creates a wine bold enough to stand up to the powerful flavours a whisky barrel adds”. There are very few Canadian-made whisky barrelled wines aged in Canadian whisky barrels, and as far as we know, we are the first to introduce an Appassimento Whisky Barrel aged wine!

This new wine is Wine Club exclusive. If you are interested in exploring all the benefits of Membership with Foreign Affair, you can join the wine club here.
