Dedicated to the Gran Master of Amarone—Giuseppe Quintarelli, an inspiration to our Founders. The nose on this wine is expressive, with aromas of dried fig, dried black cherry, compote, currants, leather and sweet tobacco. The palate is luxuriously smooth with rounded flavours of black cherry, cassis, blackberry, fig, tobacco and subtle oak. The Gran Q is rich and ripe with perfectly balanced alcohol, acidity and tannins. Expect a long, warm, velvety finish.
The 2012 vintage was exceptional, our Estate grown fruit ripened to unprecedented levels. The grapes were harvested individually – the Merlot in late September, the Cabernet Franc in early October and the Cabernet Sauvignon mid-October. After harvest the very best of the fruit was selected to dry naturally using the traditional appassimento method. After 105 days the grapes had reduced to half of their weight in moisture, leaving a concentrated and flavourful juice. The wine was fermented on the skins, pressed, and then aged in select French oak barrels for 28 months. Drinking beautifully now, especially after time in a decanter. The Gran Q 2012 will continue to develop in your cellar through to the year 2027.
This wine pairs perfectly with slow roasted beef cheeks, chateaubriand, roasted venison or lamb, blue and hard cheeses with charcuterie, or enjoy by itself with a fine cigar.
